Com­pon­ent Award 2019 - Win­dow of the fu­ture

The Award has been ac­com­plished suc­cess­fully. 23 com­pan­ies from 12 coun­tries took part with 31 products. The jury awar­ded 10 reg­u­lar and 3 spe­cial prizes. High life cycle cost as well as CO₂ sav­ings are pos­sible with pass­ive house win­dows. Care has to be taken of thermal bridges caused by shut­ter hous­ings. But the award showed ex­cel­lent solu­tions.

20 years of de­vel­op­ment work on the pass­ive ­hou­se win­dow, a cool sto­ry

Wolfgang Feist’s defin­i­tion of cri­ter­ia for win­dows us­able in Pass­ive Houses has changed the win­dow world. The smal­ler wood win­dow pro­du­cer fol­lowed the find­ings of PHI sci­ent­ists as the first group. The res­ult is, that PH win­dow qual­ity is present as the highest level in beauty, sus­tain­ab­il­ity and en­ergy- plus cost ef­fi­ciency.

Pass­ive house cer­ti­fied cur­tain walls / The dif­fi­cult re­la­tion between de­mand & real­ity

The re­quire­ments on pass­ive house cer­ti­fied win­dows for cool tem­per­ate cli­mate re­gions are ver­sat­ile. Be­sides the re­quired total U-value and the cor­res­pond­ing ref­er­en­ce glaz­ing must also reach a value of U_w,in­stalled ≤ 0.85 W/m²K. And it's not only about the total U-value. All the spe­cif­ic­a­tions of the pass­ive house cer­ti­fic­ates must be ful­filled.

Re­duc­ing struc­tu­ral ther­mal bridge ef­fects - a best prac­ti­ce stu­dy on Pas­si­ve Hou­se pro­jects in Chi­na

Es­tab­lished European thermal break solu­tions must be as­sessed re­gard­ing their com­pli­ance with Chinese build­ing codes. Avail­able sys­tems for bal­conies and air-con­di­tion slabs (but also façade fix­ings) have already been suc­cess­fully ev­al­u­ated and ap­proved by cer­ti­fied na­tion­al test centres in China.
