The path to a climate-compatible building stock

How can the building sector play its part in achieving the 1.5 °C climate target? After decades of missed opportunities, bringing all buildings to climate-compatible energy levels by 2050 is a daunting task.
This presentation sheds light on the issue and presents a socially, economically, and environmentally beneficial scenario for how the transition to a sustainable level of building energy usage can be achieved. The key is to include both, retrofits and new builds, to use efficiency and renewables in a high-quality manner, and to perform energy retrofits within regular renewal cycles despite time constraints. High-efficiency components are particularly important; appropriate policy instruments for implementation will also be discussed.
