Tips and Tricks for designPH (in English)

The workshop will cover advanced use of designPH, with a focus on sharing tips, tricks and experiences that can be used for interrogating and troubleshooting the model, optimising the design and modelling more complex building geometries. Participants will also receive an outlook on further new developments being implemented for designPH 2.0.

IMPORTANT: It is expected that you are familiar with SketchUp and designPH. We will not give basic instructions!

Welcome and short introduction of participants

Conventions for drawing the model
We will demonstrate how to efficiently draw and organise a model for optimal designPH analysis.

Windows & doors
We will demonstrate and discuss some of the issues around entering windows and the different ways doors can be entered.

Defining TFA and the TFA categories
We will briefly discuss the entries in the ‘Estimated TFA calculation’ panel, how to troubleshoot and the possibilities for assigning values directly to surfaces drawn in the model.

Entering shading objects
We will cover the concepts of how the shading analysis is currently done by designPH and discuss how to drawing shading objects to get the expected result. We will also show a preview of some of the latest developments in the shading analysis.

Troubleshooting and auditing the model
We will discuss and demonstrate some techniques for checking the model and fixing some model problems that can occur. We will also introduce a new feature.

The designPH calculation and verification
We will discuss the basis of the internal heat balance calculations in designPH, and explain the simplifications and defaults used.

PHPP export
We will discuss and demonstrate the issues around export to PHPP and introduce a new feature.
