Ret­ro­fit trans­ition of the land­marked hip­po­pot­amus house in the Nur­em­berg Tier­garten to­wards a zero-en­ergy build­ing

The former hip­po­pot­amus house at the Nur­em­berg zoo was re­de­ve­loped as a “desert house” that meets the Pass­ive House Stand­ard. The build­ing en­vel­ope re­lies on con­tinu­ous in­teri­or in­su­la­tion (floor, walls, ceil­ing) to elim­in­ate thermal bridges. Since the ret­ro­fit, the build­ing no longer con­sumes heat­ing en­ergy. CO2 sav­ings of around 99% have been achieved.

An eco­lo­gic­al liv­ing quarter in Mu­nich's Prinz Eu­gen Park

Build­ing lot WA 14 East serves as an ex­ample to in­tro­duce Europe’s largest de­vel­op­ment us­ing tim­ber con­struc­tion in Mu­nich. The fo­cus was on us­ing re­new­able raw ma­ter­i­als, con­sid­er­ing so­cial and eco­lo­gic­al as­pects, and achiev­ing high stand­ar­ds for en­ergy ef­fi­ciency and in some cases the Pass­ive House Stand­ard while main­tain­ing sus­tain­able ar­chi­tec­tur­al qual­ity.

St Sid­wells Point Leis­ure Cen­tre

Ex­eter City Coun­cil are cur­rently build­ing a state of the art leis­ure centre. St Sid­wells Point will be the first UK leis­ure fa­cil­ity built to the Passivhaus stand­ard. Situ­ated in Ex­eter city centre the build­ing in­cor­por­ates a range of fa­cil­it­ies, in­clud­ing: Main swim­ming pool, learners pool and con­fid­en­ce wa­ter pool, café, fit­ness fa­cil­it­ies, health suite and spa as well as a chil­dren's soft play area. Con­struc­tion work star­ted on site in Janu­ary 2019 and will take two years to con­struct.

Zetland Pass­ive House

The Zetland Passive House is the UK's greenest retrofit and the first home to attain EnerPHit Plus certification in Europe. This project has achieved a 95% reduction in space heating demand with no central heating system. The aim was to go beyond Passivhaus targets by building the homes in the most ecological way possible - without petrochemicals, using only breathable, natural materials - delivering the healthiest, and most sustainable living space. A cost-ef­fect­ive pro­ject in a warm cli­mate, the first multi-fam­ily build­ing PH cer­ti­fied in Italy with massive struc­ture is in Putig­nano, south­ern Italy.The ar­chi­tect of this pro­ject was Piero Russo from Piero Russo In­gegn­er­ia Ar­chitettura.

It is a modest building aimed at influencing the future of Canada’s development and construction industry to reach its 2030 climate goals. With the climate crisis as a politically sensitive topic and affordable housing declining in Canada today, this project aims at significantly reducing carbon emissions while delivering fast, quality, of-site pre-fabrication for a non-profit organization.
